A focus and its moment
Each focus belongs to one moment of your clip. Choose the moment on the timeline, find focuses by their dots, and move a focus to another moment.
A focus marks one moment of your clip — the moment the editor shows when you draw it. Choose a moment where the subject is clear: facing the camera, not hidden, not blurred.
Choosing the moment
- Drag the slider under the frame, or click or drag on the filmstrip. The clock shows where you are.
- Each focus appears as a dot in its colour on the timeline. Click a dot to jump to that focus. Where several dots crowd together, a + button lists them.
- On your clip's page, a focus shows on the picture only while the clip is paused on its moment.
One moment is enough
You mark the subject once. Optic uses that mark to know which subject you mean, and your words say what happens to it wherever it appears in the stretch. You do not need to mark every second.
Moving a focus to another moment
- Select the focus.
- Move the timeline to the new moment.
- Press Move to this moment, then Apply.
While the timeline is away from a focus's moment, you can still change its name and colour, but not its shape or place.
Outside the chosen stretch
The editor shows your whole clip. A focus on a moment outside the stretch you chose still counts — it still tells Optic which subject you mean.
