Making video in the chat

Bring a clip, pick its moments, let ROUTIX read them for free, talk it through, say Routix it — then watch it plan, make and hand you the video.

Here is the whole road from your clip to a finished video in the chat, with the words you see on the way.

From your clip

  1. Bring the clip. Press + → Video to edit. While it travels the chat tells you it is bringing your footage in; then ROUTIX says "Your clip is in. I'm looking at it now — I'll tell you what I see in a moment."
  2. Pick the moments. The timeline card — PICK MOMENTS — opens with your clip. Drag on the timeline to mark the start and end of each moment, or type them into Start frame and End frame, and press Confirm. Add more with +; Clear all starts over.
  3. Choose how they come back: One film or Separate. Each moment is at least 4 seconds; as One film, together they run to at most 60 seconds, and the card counts them as you go. Moments cannot overlap.
  4. Press Done. The chat writes "I've selected … Please analyze it." and ROUTIX starts "Studying your footage". This reading is free.
  5. See what ROUTIX holds in mind. Discovery — Subjects held: who and what it found, tracked across your moments (rename any of them); Continuity — What stayed true, checked by Fovea; Source look — Colors held; and Source sound — What was said, a timed record of the words spoken.
  6. Talk it over. Say what should change, add pictures, ask questions. Nothing is made yet.
  7. Say Routix it. ROUTIX chooses the way your change needs:
    • your story stays — the same moments, with your change: "I'll re-make your moments as one video with your change, keeping the rest of your footage." This is Optic, ROUTIX's own revision model;
    • what happens changes — the moment is made anew as its own video: "I'll make your moment anew as its own video with your change." (see Change the story);
    • you ask for start and end frames — ROUTIX paints the frames first and makes the video from them.
  8. Read the plan. What I'll do lists the steps, numbered — and says what is "already made — kept, not made again", and what each of your pictures is for: "Your image 1 becomes the thing that changes.", or it "lends only its look — its style and colour, none of its contents".
  9. Wait for it. One row shows the video being made, in words — never a percentage. If others are ahead: "Waiting its turn — yours is next." Set it down stops it.
  10. Watch it. The finished video lands On the desk: Download video, Fullscreen, Review evidence — and More → Change direction to say what should change.

Change the story

In the chat you can change more than how things look: you can change what happens. Pick the moments, say what happens now, and say Routix it.

For example: in your clip a man drinks a soda while he says his line. Tell ROUTIX: "No soda — an eagle lands on his head and eats seeds." ROUTIX makes those moments anew, around what happens now.

Any subject works the same way — a person, an animal, a thing, a product:

  • A dog trots along a beach → "The dog stops, digs in the sand and comes up with a starfish."
  • A cyclist rides past a café → "She brakes, leans the bike against the wall and walks inside."
  • A paper boat floats down a gutter → "The boat lifts off the water and flies away like a bird."
  • A bottle stands on a table → "A hand comes into the frame and pours a glass."

What stays yours. A moment made anew keeps its exact length, and everything you do not name comes from your clip: the place and everything in it, how each thing looks, the light and its colours, the framing, the camera's movement and the pace. Add a picture to show who or what arrives — "the eagle in my picture". Your clip's own sound stays with the moment, except words someone is no longer shown saying, which are taken out where they can be.

What may be made is set by our Content Policy, for everyone. In Studio, Optic keeps your story and changes what you name; a new story belongs here, in the chat.

Change it again

Type the change and say Routix it. With several videos in the chat, ROUTIX asks which one, by its number. When a new video takes the place of an earlier one, the earlier one is kept — "It replaces video …, which stays in the project." Making one again costs again.

From words alone

In a chat without a clip, ROUTIX builds a brief with you from the conversation. It asks for what is missing, one thing at a time — "One thing first: how long should the finished piece run?" — and if there is nothing visual yet, it asks for one picture, or offers to make a reference sheet from your words first. When you say Routix it, it makes one take from the brief, your pictures and the chat's references.

Frames first

When you ask for frames, ROUTIX paints each shot's frames before any video: "Painting shot 1's start frame", "Shot 1's start frame is ready". Each one is checked by Fovea. In Blink, each waits for your word. When the stage is done, the closing gallery Everything this stage built shows them all — "Everything this stage built is on the desk — say the word and I'll carry it into video." On the desk you can Approve, Request change, Adjust reference, Rebuild this or Reject a frame, and compare it with your source.

When a video does not come out right

ROUTIX does not try again behind your back. It holds one more attempt and asks: "This one didn't come out right. I have one more attempt ready and I'm holding it — nothing is spent until you say so." Go ahead runs it; Leave it gives back what was held for it — "Left it there — what was held for it is back with you."

Stop

Stop — in place of the send button while ROUTIX works — stops the chat's work. What had not started is cancelled and not charged; a take already being made still arrives, and is charged only if it passes ROUTIX's check.

Frequently asked questions

Does the reading cost anything?

No. Picking your moments, Done and ROUTIX's reading are free. What you ask to be made is charged after you say Routix it; your own messages have their small price, as every chat message does — see What a chat costs.

Why did ROUTIX make a new moment instead of changing mine?

Because your words change what happens in the shot — a revision keeps your story and changes what you name, while a new action means a new moment. Say it as a change to what is there, and it revises.
