# Start a chat and find your chats

> Start a chat with a clip, pictures, a sound or just words, bring your files, say Routix it when you want something made — and find every chat again.

A chat is a conversation with ROUTIX about something you want made. You describe it; ROUTIX looks at what you bring, plans the work and makes it, step by step, showing you what it is doing.

## Start a chat

1. Press **New chat** in the sidebar (or on the Chats page). Nothing is created until you send your first message or file. You can also start from ROUTIX's home page: write in **Give Routix a direction** and your words become the chat's first message.
2. Say what you want made: *"Tell me what you want made."* Start with a clip, with pictures, or with nothing but a description.
3. Bring your files (below), and talk it through. ROUTIX answers, asks one question at a time when it needs to, and tells you what it sees.
4. When you want it made, say **Routix it**. That is the word that starts the work — until you say it, ROUTIX talks and listens, and nothing is made or spent on making.
5. Press Enter to send (Shift+Enter starts a new line). While ROUTIX works, the send button becomes **Stop**.

Your first message names the chat; rename it any time from the Chats page.

## Bring your files

Press **+** — *"Add a video or a sound"* — or the picture button:

- **Video to edit** — *"Opens the timeline to pick moments"*: the clip ROUTIX will change.
- **Video as reference** — *"ROUTIX studies it — no timeline"*: a clip to learn from, never the one that is changed.
- **Audio** — *"Your voice or a sound file"*: a sound you hand over for the video.
- **Upload reference image** — pictures of a person, a product, a place or a look you want used.

Each opens your **Gallery**, where you can upload from your device — or on a phone, **Take a photo** or **Take a video** — or pick something you already have. Picked files wait above the box until you send.

Each picture you send can be given its role in **How Routix should use this reference**: **Identity**, **Scene**, **Style**, **Element**, **Pose / motion**, **Lighting** or **Color palette**. Leave it, and ROUTIX works out the role from your words.

- Up to 5 pictures travel with one message; any more stay attached, ready for your next one. Over a chat you can bring as many as you like.
- A message can be up to 40,000 characters.
- A file the chat cannot take is turned away before any of it lands, with a sentence that says why — too large, or not the kind of file it was offered as — and what to send instead.

## What a chat costs

Every message has a price, shown on the Credits page under **In the chat**. A message that starts a make — your **Routix it** — also pays for the planning, and what it then makes is priced on its own. Credits are held when your message is saved and kept when it is answered; if no answer comes, or the make delivers nothing, they come back.

The chat shows no price card before it starts: **Routix it** begins the work at once. In **How I'll make this**, each model you can choose shows its price beside it before anything is made. You can ask the chat what it has spent, and it answers from your credit record.

## The Chats page

**Chats** in the sidebar lists every chat as a folder card — its name, what it holds and when, and a live word: **In the studio** while something is being made, **Needs you** while a take waits for your answer.

- Search with **Search your chats**; sort by **Last activity**, **Created** or **Name**; **Show more** for older chats.
- Press a file on a card to see it whole, or **Open chat**.
- A card's menu: **Browse all files**, **Download all**, **Rename**, **Delete**.
- **Download all** hands each file to your browser in turn, named after the chat.
- **Delete** asks first — **Keep it** or **Delete chat**. A chat that is still working is asked to stop first; delete it again once it has stopped.

**Search** in the sidebar finds a chat by its name or description among your recent chats.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why hasn't ROUTIX made anything yet?

Because you have not said **Routix it**. Until then ROUTIX talks with you, looks at what you bring and plans — so you can change your mind freely. Words like "make it" or "go" are read as part of your idea, not as the start.

### Can I paste a video link into a chat?

Bring the video file itself with **+** — that is the clip ROUTIX can work on.

### Where did my projects go?

*"Projects are now Chats — every chat you have is here."* Nothing was lost; they are on the Chats page.
